Benromach 10 Year-Old Malt Scotch is a multi-award winning single malt whisky from Speyside’s smallest working distillery. Based in Forres, this distillery was brought back to life in 1993 by Gordon & Macphail, having being closed ten years prior. In a nod to the past, this whisky is lightly peated giving it a smoky undertone throughout.
Initially matured in a mix of 80% Bourbon and 20% Sherry, Benromach is then finished for a final year in first fill Oloroso sherry barrels, which adds complexity and depth in flavour. It is then bottled at 43% with no added colouring or chill filtration.
On the nose it offers a broad spectrum of flavours with rich sherry tones, fruit and nut chocolate, delicate spice, charred oak, malty biscuit and a touch of light peat smoke dominating. When you taste it, these flavours develop on the palate with delicious forest fruits and creamy malt, followed by a whiff of smoke and those lingering sherry sweet tones.
Benromach is a beautifully balanced dram and an example of classic Speyside style of single malt whisky of a bygone era.
